UNITED AIRLINES HAS CANCELLED A TRAVELING flight to Seoul from Miami on Thursday.
The decision comes after a report in the South Korean media said the airline had violated United’s rules on flying to South Korean cities and airspace.
United, which is based in Minneapolis, had been scheduled to fly from Seoul to Los Angeles on Thursday, but a passenger from Florida was pulled from the flight and the United representative responsible for the passenger, Brian McInnis, was suspended.
United said the passenger was arrested after he boarded the plane at a Dallas airport, where he was being processed.
McInnes told the Star Tribune that the passenger’s family “was not informed of the violation and was not provided the name of the passenger.”
The airline is now considering whether to resume flights to South Koreans.
United also announced Thursday that it would be suspending flights from Minneapolis to Miami and is working with the city of Miami to investigate whether the incident violates United’s terms of service.
The suspension will affect all flights from United to South Koreas, including the United Airlines connecting flights from Miami to Los Angelas.
It also affects all United flight itineraries between South Korea and the U.S. that are scheduled to end in South Korea.
United’s decision to suspend flights to Seoul comes as tensions between North and South Korea remain high following a recent missile test and the country’s fifth nuclear test.
The two countries have been locked in a tense standoff since late August.
The United States and South Korean governments say the North launched a ballistic missile on Tuesday that flew over Japan and landed in the Sea of Japan.
The U.N. Security Council is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss the North’s latest test, which it said was a violation of U.K. and U.U. resolutions.
A U.A.E. spokesman said the South Korea-based carrier had recently received a letter from the South American country.
United and Korean Airlines have both issued similar statements.
United declined to comment on Thursday about the passenger who was pulled off the flight.
